Physical vs Permanent Fruits in Blox Fruits
Updated 2026-11-04 · 4 min read
If you've spent any time in a Blox Fruits trading area, you've heard people talk about "perms." Permanent and physical fruits give you the same powers, but they work differently and are valued very differently in trades. Mixing them up is one of the easiest ways to lose a good fruit.
The quick answer
- A physical fruit is a one-time item you can hold, store, trade or eat. Once eaten, it's used up.
- A permanent fruit is bought with Robux and unlocks that fruit on your account. You can switch back to it whenever you want.
What is a physical fruit?
A physical fruit is a fruit you can hold as an item. You can get one by:
- Finding it under a tree, where fruits spawn regularly around the map
- Rolling a random fruit from the Blox Fruit Gacha for Beli
- Earning it as a reward from some raids, sea events and limited-time events
- Trading with other players
Note that buying a fruit with Beli from the Blox Fruit Dealer does not give you a physical fruit. You get the powers right away, with no item to store or trade, and you lose them as soon as you eat or buy a different fruit.
What you can do with a physical fruit
- Eat it to gain its powers. This replaces whatever fruit you had before.
- Store it in your inventory to keep it safe for later. By default you can store one of each fruit, and buying the +1 Fruit Storage product from the Shop raises that limit.
- Trade it with another player. Only stored fruits appear in the trade window.
- Spend it on a raid microchip, which gives even low-value fruits a use.
Keep your physical fruits safe
If you get defeated while holding a fruit that isn't stored, you lose it, and the other player doesn't get it either. Store fruits as soon as you pick them up, especially in busy PvP areas. Stored fruits also can't be dropped.
What is a permanent fruit?
A permanent fruit, often called a perm, is bought with Robux from the Blox Fruit Dealer or the Shop menu. You can buy one at any time, in any sea, even if that fruit isn't in the Dealer's current stock.
Once a permanent fruit is active on your account, you can switch to it whenever you like through the Dealer or the Shop. Switching replaces your current fruit, but you never lose the permanent unlock.
Gifting, storing and trading perms
When you buy a permanent fruit, you can use it yourself right away, or choose one of two other options:
- Gift it to another player. It activates on their account right away.
- Store it in your inventory. A stored perm stays tradable until you decide to activate it.
A few rules to remember:
- A permanent fruit you receive in a trade activates right away. It doesn't sit in your inventory, and it doesn't swap out the fruit you're currently using.
- You can't give someone a permanent fruit they already own.
- Once a permanent fruit has been activated, it can no longer be traded.
Side-by-side comparison
- After eating or activating: A physical fruit is used up. A permanent fruit stays on your account.
- Switching back: Once you switch away from a physical fruit, you need a new copy to use it again. A perm lets you switch back any time.
- Trading: Physical fruits must be stored first. Perms must be stored and never activated.
- Trade value: Perms are valued far higher than physical copies of the same fruit.
What stays the same either way
- The fruit plays the same. A permanent fruit has the same moves as its physical version.
- Mastery stays with you. Your mastery for a fruit is kept even if you switch to a different fruit.
- Awakenings stay with you. Awakened moves you unlock through raids are tied to your account for that fruit, so they come back when you use the fruit again.
Which one should you get?
Pick a physical fruit if you want to try a fruit out, you're building up items to trade, or you don't want to spend Robux. Pick a permanent fruit if you've found your main fruit, or you like switching between fruits without hunting for new copies.
A smart approach is to try a physical copy first and only buy the perm if you still love the fruit after leveling with it for a while. If you'd rather skip the hunt, GetPets sells fruits and delivers them to you in-game.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Eating a new fruit on top of one you wanted to keep. Unless you own the perm, your old fruit is gone.
- Activating a perm you meant to trade. Choose to store it in your inventory instead.
- Mixing up versions in a trade. Check whether the window shows a physical or permanent fruit before you accept.
- Walking around with unstored fruits. Store them right away so a lost fight doesn't cost you.
Once you understand the difference, value lists make a lot more sense, and you're much harder to trick in a trade.
